Why is destruction better than erasing hard drives?

Data destruction is an invaluable tool that can help companies to mitigate the risk of identity theft, prevent data breach, and enhance consumer trust. Technological advances have made it increasingly possible for intruders and hackers to recover old, disposed data. In many cases, certain kinds of software and various kinds of magnetic recovery techniques can actually facilitate the restoration of data that has been deleted from a device. When sensitive or confidential data is recovered by hackers, the implications can disastrous, seriously compromising consumer security and oftentimes putting companies in a legally precarious situation. The bottom line is that these kinds of security breaches can do serious damage to a business, resulting in a loss of consumer confidence and hurting profits.

Data destruction is a common security procedure used across many industries to prevent the illicit recovery of sensitive or confidential data. Healthcare providers commonly use data destruction to destroy sensitive information, such as healthcare records, insurance information, and employment information. Similarity, banks and financial institutions use data destruction in order to destroy information, such as credit card numbers and account information, in order to prevent identity theft. It should be noted that small businesses in particular can benefit tremendously from data destruction, as it helps them to protect both employee data and customer data, including sensitive financial data and confidential insurance information. Data destruction offers the following advantages:

  • Permanent physical destruction – Shredding is the safest and most secure way to render a data storage unit totally unusable, ensuring that sensitive or confidential information can never be recovered from the device. Our 1,700-pound shredding device obliterates each device into thousands of tiny pieces, making it virtually impossible for anyone to ever reconstruct the device and rendering the data irretrievable.
  • Regulatory compliance – Data privacy laws govern data destruction processes. Our data destruction services ensure regulatory compliance, meaning that your company will never face fines for improper disposal of data or e-waste. E-Waste Security is AAA NAID Certified for the destruction of onsite hard drive, as well as a number of additional forms of digital media. This certification means that our data destruction processes helps you comply with key data destruction legislation, including the HIPAA and the FACTA Disposal Rule overseen by the Federal Trade Commis
  • Enhanced security – In today’s world, anyone can turn misplaced sensitive information into a weapon against your business. In fact, there has been a substantial increase in data breaches and ID theft. It has been estimated that the world has seen a 137 percent increase in security breaches and attacks over the course of the past 10 years. Our data destruction processes make it close to impossible for an individual to get his or her hands on unwanted data, enhancing your company’s security.

Your company should always choose a reputable, certified data destruction service provider in order to prevent security breaches. E-Waste Security provides high-quality, secure data destruction services that are fully verifiable and compliant with all data privacy laws, bringing you both security and peace of mind.

The Data Destruction Process

Our onsite data destruction is fully verifiable, providing you with the peace of mind that your sensitive or confidential data has been fully and completely destroyed. Our certified data destruction technicians will deliver a mobile shredding unit to your office or warehouse. Prior to the destruction process, all hard drives will be scanned for serial number reporting if requested by the client. Our technicians will then begin the data destruction process. All media, including hard drives, are destroyed using a state-of-the-art 1,700-pound shredding machine. This is by far the most comprehensive and complete method of data destruction, and far superior to other options commonly offered, such as drilling, bending, or hole punching. Once the shredding process is complete, the remnants will be removed for recycling and a Certificate of Destruction will be issued for your records. Our process is safe, secure, and fully adheres to all governmental and industry guidelines and regulations, including NIST 800-88 if you need that level of security.

Please note that we are able to destroy a range of different media, including hard drives, backup tapes, cellphones, USB drives, and optical media. Call our Los Angeles office at 323-677-2502 or Orange County at 949-514-8090.
